The spam filters in Yahoo! email are powerful, yet they sometimes miss spam email messages. While it can be frustrating to find this spam in your inbox, it is possible to filter them out. You can use the email filters in your Yahoo! online mail interface to screen them out. Yahoo! Mail allows you to add up to 200 filters to filter spam before it reaches your inbox. To get started, go to the Yahoo! website, then click “Mail” on the left side of the page. On the right, click “Options,” then select “Mail Options” from the drop-down menu. Select “Filters” from the menu on the left. Click “Add Filter.” By “Filter Name,” type a name you can remember. By “Sender,” type or paste the email address or domain name of the sender you’d like to block. If you’re consistently receiving email that’s not for you, put the incorrect address in the “Recipient” field. By “Subject,” add any keywords that are appearing within the subject field of the spam email messages you’ve been receiving. By “Body,” add any keywords that typically appear in the body of the spam messages. Beside each entry, choose “Contains,” “Does not contain,” “Begins with,” or “Ends with,” as appropriate. By “Move to Folder,” select the folder you’d like the spam to go to after it’s filtered. You can select “New Folder” to create another folder, if none of your existing folders will do. You can also open your Yahoo! Mail account in another tab or window to see the spam email you’ve received. Select the check box beside the spam email, but don’t open it. Click the “Spam” button at the top of the list of messages. Go to your “Spam” folder, then open the email. The remote images will automatically be blocked for your protection. Copy the email address from the “From” field, then paste it into the “Sender” field. You can also copy and paste keywords and recipients from this window. Click “Save Changes” at the top of the screen. In Yahoo! Mail, filters at the top of the list are at a higher priority than the ones lower down. If you’d like a filter to take top priority, select it and click “Move Filter Up” until it’s at the top of the Filters list. If you want a filter to take higher priority than another filter, move it up until it is just above the other filter. If you want it to take lower priority than another filter, select the filter and click “Move Filter Down” until it’s just below the other filter. Select “Remove Filter” for each filter you no longer wish to use. Repeat these steps for each filter you’d like to create. For more assistance, visit the Yahoo! mail help site.
